Advantages of Gas Permeable (GP) Lenses 

 

Gas permeable contact lenses offer some outstanding benefits over soft lenses.

• GP lenses provide a better oxygen supply and allow your eyes to "breathe" better.  This reduces the risk of eye problems caused by hypoxia (reduced oxygen supply). 

• GP lenses are smaller in diameter than soft lenses, so they cover up less of the front surface of the eye (Cornea).

• GP lenses hold their shape and move on the eye with each blink. This movement pumps oxygen-containing tears under the lens. Soft lenses conform to the shape of the cornea and have only minimal movement with blinks, so little or no tears circulate under soft lenses.

• GP lenses provide sharper vision. Because they are fabricated based on your eyes specific measurement and maintain their shape on the eye.

• GP lenses also provide a more stable and accurate correction for astigmatism.

• GP lenses last longer. They are also easier to keep clean and don't need to be replaced frequently like soft lenses. With proper care, a single pair of GP lenses can last a year

GP Lenses—What is It?

 

Gas Permeable (GP) Contact Lenses also known as rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses, are hard contact lenses made of silicone-containing compounds that allow oxygen to pass through the lens material to the eye.  GP lenses offer a numbers of advantages over soft lenses.

Am I a Candidate for GP Lenses?

Majority of nearsighted and farsighted patients are good candidates for GP contact lenses. If you want superior vision, that is easy to handle and take care of and cost-effective type of correction , then you are a great candidate for GP lenses.
Patients that have a corneal irregularity from conditions such as keratoconus, corneal surgery, or trauma are also a perfect candidate for GP lenses. These patients truly suffer with their visual condition, and GP lenses can increase their quality of life.

The Scleral Lens Process!

 

Initial examination, 

Corneal Topographer will be used to determine the shape, the refractive error and any possible corneal deformities.

 

 

Fitting, 

Which may happen on the same day, where we will select a lens based on your corneal measurement and your eye sight strength

Follow Up Visits, 

One-to-two-week treatment phase where candidates use their prescription contacts

There is always the risk of infection without proper eye and lens care, so practice good hygiene and schedule routine follow-up eye appointments!
